Esewa enters its 14th year
KATHMANDU: JAN. 25 – Esewa, Nepal’s largest payment service provider, is celebrating its 14th year in business. Esewa, which began as a beta version in 2009 and officially launched on January 25, 2010, has made major contributions to the development of a cashless economy during this time.
In the last 13 years, the number of direct account openings in eSewa has surpassed 5 million, according to the company. Similarly, eSewa provides services to over 15 million customers indirectly.
Esewa currently has 130,000 agents (eSewa zones and points) spread around the country. The number of people who have downloaded eSewa’s mobile apps has surpassed 5 million. More than 200,000 merchants are currently registered with eSewa.

Esewa currently has 51 banks and financial institutions as members.
