Government fails to control corruption, Nepal’s position in index remains same
KATHMANDU: JAN. 25 – Efforts to combat corruption in Nepal have failed miserably.
According to Transparency International’s 2021 Corruption Perceptions Index, Nepal ranks 117th as in 2020.
With 33 points, Nepal is ranked 117th out of 180 countries. Nepal received only 33 points last year as well. Transparency International measures experts’ perceptions of public sector corruption in 180 countries.
The concept is that a lack of global anti-corruption efforts traps human rights and democracy. The activities associated with COVID-19 have also aided this.
Corruption has not diminished worldwide, and 86 per cent of countries have not seen any progress for a decade.
According to Transparency International, corruption, human rights abuses, declining levels of democracy, increasing authoritarianism and increasing corruption are common in countries where civil rights are weak.
