Coalition meeting: Parties agree to hold elections in April
KATHMANDU: JAN. 18 – The ruling coalition’s meetings have concluded. The parties met after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the PM’s official residence in Baluwatar to discuss a variety of problems, including local elections. The parties agreed to hold the election on time during the discussion.
The parties have decided to conduct the election in Baisakh (April/May), according to the secretariat of UCPN (Maoist) Central Committee Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, a component of the alliance. “The parties have agreed to hold the local elections on time,” Ramesh Malla, a Prachanda Secretariat member, stated.
Now, another meeting will be held on Jan 20 for further discussion.
The Election Commission has urged the parties to make the election date public as soon as possible. At an all-party meeting on Jan 13, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya reminded the commission that it would take more than 120 days to prepare for the election and urged a quick decision.
