Janakpur chosen as permanent capital of State 2
KATHMANDU: JAN. 17 – Janakpur has been selected as the permanent capital of State 2.
In the vote on Monday, 78 of the 99 MPs of the state assembly voted in favor of the proposal. 78 is more than two-thirds of the total.
The state assembly has 104 members. In the second attempt, the capital was established. Previously, even when voting was performed on March 16, 2020, the capital could not be decided.
The Study Special Committee on Capital and State Naming of State 2 presented seven proposals for permanent capital from the start. Later it was modified into three. In Janakpur, a two-thirds majority was cast.
According to the proposal, the center of Janakpur, the permanent capital of State 2, will be the Dhalkebar East-West Highway in the north, the Kamala River in the east, the Mithila Secondary Circuit Road in the west, and the border of South Nepal.
