Election process should start immediately: Local level umbrella organization

KATHMANDU: JAN. 17 – Local umbrella organizations have demanded that the municipal election process start shortly.

The Nepal Federation of Municipalities, National Federation of Villages, and Federation of District Coordinating Committees issued a joint statement urging the government and the Election Commission to begin the election process, referring to the fact that the term of the constitutionally elected municipalities is coming to an end and that the constitution does not envision a local level without people’s representatives.

The joint statement said, “We would like to draw the attention of the Government of Nepal and the Election Commission to immediately start the election process for the second term as the term of the elected people’s representatives expires on May 21, July 5, September 23, 2022, respectively.”
