24th National Earthquake Safety Day Celebrated [Photos]

KATHMANDU: JAN. 16 – Remembering the 1990 BS earthquake at 2:24 pm in Nepal, the 24th National Earthquake Safety Day has been observed. The government marked the 24th National Earthquake Safety Day with the slogan “Earthquake Awareness, Safe Structure.”

Since 2055 BS, Magh 2 is being celebrated as the National Earthquake Safety Day. The government began marking the day in order to raise public awareness about the possibility of earthquakes.

Today, the main function committee has organized a special program at the Patan Durbar area to mark the day. Only a few people were physically present during the program, including Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand and Urban Development Minister Ram Kumari Jhankri, while Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba addressed the gathering through virtual means.

The format of the program has been altered owing to the new variation of COVID-19, according to the original function committee.
