Fugitive defendant arrested from Saudi Arabia after 17 years

KATHMANDU: JAN. 13 – Govinda Magar, 40, of Udayapur’s Belaka Municipality-6, who has been absconding for 17 years in a case of murder accused, has been arrested in Saudi Arabia and brought home.

After being arrested in Saudi Arabia, the fugitive Magar was brought to Nepal on Wednesday by a police team deployed under the coordination of the Interpol branch of the Police Headquarters.

Defendant Magar was arrested with the permission granted by District Court, Udayapur in the case of murder of Man Bahadur Tamang on Mangsir 13, 2061 (28 November 2004).

The Interpol Branch of the Police Headquarters, in coordination with the Interpol Secretariat, conducted a search at the request of the Area Police Office in Rampur Thoksila.

According to the Police Headquarters, Defendant Magar was handed over to the Udayapur Area Police Office in Rampur Thoksila today for the necessary legal action.
