National Weightlifting Championship kicks off in Madhyapur Thimi

BHAKTAPUR: JAN. 11 – The 24th Men and 9th Women National Weightlifting Championship has kicked off at Madhyapur Thimi from today.

Inaugurating the Championship, culture expert and centenarian Satya Mohan Joshi said it is the responsibility of every citizen to keep Nepal’s nationality high. He said the coming generations should be motivated to keep the country’s fame high by carrying out works enhancing national dignity.

Joshi stressed incorporating sports and the profile of best athletes in the curriculum right from the school level.

Madhyapur Thimi Municipality mayor Madan Sundar Shrestha said the municipality has been supporting in the development of sports and sportspersons. It has been still supporting this sector, he said.

One hundred forty lifters from various districts are competing in various departments in six events under the Championship. The final event will take place on Jan 13.
