KATHMANDU: JAN. 11 – The government has halted secondary schools from now until Jan 29 due to an increase in COVID-19 infection. According to the recommendation of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Coordination Center (CCMC) on Jan 9 and the decision of the Ministry of Education the next day, 35,000 schools across the country have been closed as of today.

No decision has been taken regarding the teaching of universities and educational institutes. However, the examination program has been urged to be carried out in accordance with public health norms.

The Ministry of Education has requested the schools to make necessary facilitation in the learning of the students as per the Learning Facilitation Guideline, 2077 BS.

CCMC spokesperson Sunita Nepal said that such a decision had to be taken as the risk of covid among children increased. The Ministry of Education has also requested the Ministry of Health to vaccinate students in the age group of 12 to 17 years at all local levels during the leave period.
