KATHMANDU: JAN. 10 – For the first time in Nepal, payment service provider eSewa has provided a ‘Secured Transfer’ service. This feature allows you to securely provide money and goods even to strangers.

Making payments from PSPs, PSOs, mobile banking systems, internet banking, and digital wallets are getting popular. While all of these are trending in Nepal, making secure payments is still in an improving state since various financial scams take place time and again.

When the users do not become aware during an online money transfer, they can be prone to some risks associated with it. In addition to that, these days Whatsapp scams are increasing where you get unsolicited messages that ask for your banking details and others.

To reduce such work, the Secured Transfer feature has been introduced, where the amount will be released only after the goods are delivered.

According to the company, this feature will allow eSewa users to securely send money to another eSewa wallet. This feature can be used for remittances above Rs. 1,000. After the goods have been delivered to this service, the recipient will have to click on the request button, that information will go to the sender. The person sending the money will have to release the amount only after receiving the goods or services.

If there is a dispute over whether the goods have been sent or not, it can complain with proof. ESewa believes this will also reduce fraudulent transactions. This feature is available for a fee. The Secure Transfer feature can be used in over 1000 transactions. There will be a fee of Rs 5 for transactions between Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000 and Rs 10 for transactions above Rs 5,000. However, if there is a dispute over non-receipt and delivery of goods, a fee of Rs. 100 will be charged. It can be used as ‘auto’ or ‘manual’. If you are sending money to a stranger, eSewa will ask you to use the Secure Transfer feature.

The company has stated that the number of direct account openings in eSewa, which provides payment services through mobile and internet, has crossed 4.5 million. Similarly, about 16 million people are indirectly receiving services through eSewa. At present, eSewa has more than 125,000 agents (eSewa zones and points) across the country.
