Code of Conduct Implemented, Candidates allowed to spend only 3.5 million

KATHMANDU: JAN. 10 – The election code of conduct has been implemented for the National Assembly election of January 26. The Election Commission has started implementing the code of conduct, with the objective of maintaining election cleanliness, fairness, transparency, and a fear-free environment.

The commission has also directed all stakeholders to strictly follow the election code of conduct. The commission stated that it is the legal and moral obligation of all parties involved to follow the code of conduct and that any violation will result in legal action. Following the introduction of the code of conduct, no party or candidate will be able to seek votes.

To whom does the Code of Conduct apply?

  • Union and state government ministers and staff
  • Local-level officials and employees
  • Offices and employees of government and semi-government organizations
  • Army, Police, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Department and State Police Office and security personnel
  • Employees involved in election work
  • Political parties and fraternal organizations of political parties

Candidates will be allowed to spend only three and a half lakhs

For the election of National Assembly members, the Election Commission has imposed a spending limit. For the purpose of election of members of the National Assembly, as mentioned in Schedule 1 relating to sub-rule (1) of Rule 46 of the National Assembly Members Election Rules, 2076, a limit of Rs. 350,000 has been fixed for spending.

The commission has stated that it can spend Rs 350,000 on several titles, including representative mobilization from the purchase of voter lists. 70,000 will be spent to use the vehicle horse. According to the commission, the office can be managed for Rs 70,000. On Tuesday, 43 candidates registered for the 19-member National Assembly in the same state.
