Book exhibition organized to mark Prithvi Jayanti
KATHMANDU: JAN. 9 – Nepal Academy has launched a book exhibition to mark the 300th birth anniversary of the leader of the country’s unification campaign, Prithvi Narayan Shah. The expo is organized with the objective of promoting the reading culture.
Four hundred ninety titles including books on literature, literary criticism, children’s literature, dictionaries, fiction, poetry, history, folk literature, culture, music and various journals have been kept in the exhibition cum sale. A discount of 15 to 40 per cent is offered, the Exhibition Manager Sudheer Dhungel said.
The exhibition will run for 15 days and it will be extended if readers want. Books, journals and magazines published by the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), the Nepal Academy of Music and Drama and the Sanskritik Sansthan or the Cultural Undertaking are also kept on exhibition and sale. A discount of up to 50 per cent is offered on the books published by NAFA.
Inaugurating the book exhibition, Nepal Academy Chancellor Ganga Prasad Uprety said that the 15-day programme would be useful in providing information on the Academy’s new publications as well.
All the three academies and the Sansthan are organizing on Monday a talk programme on the participation of various communities in the national unification campaign.
An art exhibition has begun at NAFA from today commemorating the Prithvi Jayanti and National Unification Day.
Chancellor Uprety shared that a cultural rally and programme of garlanding the statue of Prithvi Narayan Shah in front of the West Gate of Singhadurbar has been planned for this January 11, the Prithvi Jayanti Day.
A variety cultural programme depicting the diverse cultural tableaus of Nepal would be performed in the Sansthan’s hall in the afternoon on Jan 11.
