UML leadership selection in 22 districts (with list)
KATHMANDU: JAN. 9 – Starting on Friday, the main opposition CPN-UML began electing new leadership from a convention of 63 districts. So far, 22 different districts have been chosen, as well as two non-geographical unanimous chairpersons.
In some cases, the leadership has been elected without opposition, while in others, elections have been held. Deepak Karki was unanimously chosen chairperson in Jhapa, chairperson Oli’s home district, while Ashok Banju was unanimously elected chairperson in Kavre, leader Gokul Baskota’s home district.
Bachan Deuja has been appointed chairperson of the Bhaktapur Municipality, which is governed by Mahesh Basnet. Hukum Bahadur Basnet was chosen chairperson of UML general secretary Shankar Pokharel’s home district of Dang, while leaders Pradeep Gyawali and Bal Singh Kauchha were elected chairperson of Gokarna Bista’s home district of Gulmi.
