KATHMANDU: DEC. 29 – The impact of Westerly wind has caused rains in most parts of the country today. The wind has triggered snowfall in the highlands and the mountainous region.

According to meteorologist Ganga Nagarkoti at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the existing atmospheric condition will continue till tonight and it will gradually start subsiding from Thursday.

Tonight, the weather will be partly to generally cloudy throughout the country. Light to moderate rain has been forecast at many places of the country. Light to moderate snowfall is likely at many places of the high mountainous region, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

In its weather bulletin for the next 24 hours, the Department has hinted at the possibility of implications of the current weather system on mountaineering, aviation and transport sectors and on the people’s daily life as well. It has urged one and all to take preventive measures against the possible consequences of cold.

The Division’s latest updates show that the Kathmandu Valley recorded a minimum temperature of 7.7 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature was 15.2 degrees Celsius. Today, Jumla’s temperature dropped to minus 0.4 degrees Celsius, the lowest across the country and Bhairahawa reported the highest 28.0 degrees Celsius.
