Bollywood star Mushtaq Merchant dies

KATHMANDU: DEC. 28 – Mushtaq Merchant, a Bollywood actor and comedian, died at the age of 67. Mushtaq, who had long been suffering from diabetes, died on Monday at the Mumbai-based Family Hospital.

He has acted in films like Sholay, Seeta Aur Geeta, Haath Ki Safai, Jawani Diwani, Saagar and others. He has appeared in two roles in Sholay. In the popular song ‘Yeh Dosti Hum Nahin Todenge’, he was seen in the role of a train driver and a bike thief.

He won the Best Artist award at the All India Inter College in Mumbai. He has also received the award for best writer and director for three consecutive years. Along with acting, he has also written scripts for many films like ‘Pyaar Ka Saaya’, ‘Laat Saab’, ‘Sapne Saajan Ke’ and ‘Gang’.
