Inauguration of 8th General Convention of Maoist Center today
KATHMANDU: DEC. 26 – The Maoist center’s eighth general convention begins today in Kathmandu. The general convention will be held in the Nepal Pragya Pratisthan hall in Kamaladi, the capital.
The standing committee meeting held on Saturday has proposed to transform the conference into a general convention. The proposal will be approved by the Central Committee meeting to be held at 8 am. Earlier, the Maoist center had completed all the procedures from the ward level to hold the first national conference, but due to the constitutional provision that the general convention must be held, it is being held as a general convention.
The Maoist Center has arranged only an afternoon lunch for the delegates participating in the convention. “The delegates to the National Conference have been asked to manage their own food and lodging, including transportation,” said Hitman Shakya, coordinator of the convention’s main management committee.
For internal management, a team of 80 volunteers consisting of youth, students, and District Coordination Committee members has been formed. Shakya stated that the health section of the party had also prepared for emergency medical treatment in a vehicle. The vehicle will have a treatment service, as well as a lab. The Kathmandu Metropolitan Police will also be in charge of security.
Today, delegates from throughout the country continue to come in the capital for the inaugural convention. The Maoist center has already finalized the number of delegates from various committees. The conference organizing committee will have 179 members, the advisory committee will have 149, the senior communist committee will have 125, the various commissions will have 75, the central department will have 102, and the central representatives will have 27.
Similarly, eight hundred and three people will be selected from the States. There will be 96 participants from State 1, 106 from State 2, 128 from Bagmati, 74 from Gandaki, 105 from Lumbini, 87 from Karnali, 84 from Far West, 34 from migration, 42 from special States and 43 from liaison coordination committees. Thus, after President Prachanda nominated 1483 and 10 percent of them through the regular process, another 148 delegates will attend the General Convention.
In the closed session, party president Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ will present the political and organizational report and Dev Gurung will present the legislative amendment proposal. Discussions will be held in closed groups by forming 25 groups. If there is a lack of space for all groups to discuss in Kamaladi, the Maoists are ready to make arrangements at the central office in Parisdanda. The Maoist center has stated that it will go for the selection of new leadership after completing these tasks.
