After 6 decades, Achham finally gets a seat in NC central member
KATHMANDU: DEC. 24 – After six decades, Achham has got one central member from the 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress.
After 61 years, Achham has made a place in the Central Working Committee of the Nepali Congress. Govinda Bahadur Shah, a former Minister of State for Information and Communication, was chosen as a central member following the vote count on Thursday. He won by receiving 2014 votes from Khas Arya.
In 2017 BS, Dil Bahadur Budh Thapa became the first central member from Achham from the 7th general convention of Nepali Congress. Achham Congress leaders could not be included in the Central Committee from any of the subsequent general conventions. Former Minister of State, Shah who was elected as the General Convention Representative from Achham Constituency No. 1, has been elected as the Central Member from the 14th General Convention.
He was influenced by BP Koirala’s National Reconciliation Policy in 2033 BS and got involved in Nepali Congress politics.
In 2035 BS, he joined the Nepal Students Union and was elected from Achham Constituency No. 1 in 2048 BS. Shah was defeated in 2051 BS by Dr. Bhim Rawal, former vice-chairperson of the CPN-UML, and in 2064 BS by Sher Bahadur Kunwar, then chairperson of the CPN-UML Achham. For ten months in 2055 BS, Shah served as Minister of State for Information and Communication.
