KATHMANDU: DEC. 21 – The meeting of the House of Representatives is being held this afternoon. The meeting of the House of Representatives is scheduled to be held at 1 pm.

Speaker Agni Sapkota has called a meeting of the Business Management Advisory Committee at 11:30 am to decide the agenda to be presented in the meeting. Four possible agendas have been set for the meeting.

According to the Parliament Secretariat, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dilendra Prasad Badu will propose to approve ‘Ordinance 2078 to Amend Some Acts Against Sexual Violence’ and ‘Ordinance 2078 to Amend Some Acts on Criminal Offenses and Criminal Procedure’. Similarly, MP Prem Suwal will present a notice saying that both the ordinances should be rejected. However, the CPN-UML has been obstructing the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, the US Assistance Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is not on the agenda of today’s meeting. It is doubtful that the main opposition CPN (UML) will allow today’s sitting of the parliament. UML has been obstructing every meeting for the second time for fear of restoring the parliament.

UML has stated that it will continue obstructing the parliament until it expels 14 lawmakers, including Madhav Nepal. However, Speaker Sapkota is not ready to post the notice of action to the parliamentarians including Nepal.

Although a former UML MP, he has now formed a new party, the Unified Socialists.

Gathering a majority in support of the same party, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is now leading the government.
