Votes count for NC open central member continues
KATHMANDU: DEC. 18 – The counting of votes of the central members (35 candidates from the open party) is underway from today in the election held on Monday under the 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress. The counting of votes is being held at the party’s central office in Sanepa from 10 am.
According to the Congress Central Election Committee, counting of votes is underway in 12 different groups and about 800 votes have been counted so far. It is said that it will take some time for the preliminary results to come as the counting of votes has not reached 100 in any of the booths.
99 candidates have filed nominations for 35 posts of open central members. The counting of votes of all party office bearers was completed on Friday. So far, the results of the election held under the General Convention have been made public.
A total of 487 candidates had filed nominations for 134 posts including office bearers and members of the Congress Central Working Committee. The Congress has a total of 4,743 delegates.
There is an arrangement for the election of one president, two vice presidents, two general secretaries and eight joint general secretaries under eight different clusters. The treasurer will be elected from among the elected central members.
Similarly, there are 35 open central members, nine from women, 21 from each of the three states, nine from Dalit, 15 from Adivasi/Janajati, 13 from Khas/Arya, nine from Madhesi, four from Tharu, three from Muslims, one from backward areas, one from minorities and one from disability. It is mentioned in the Congress constitution that 134 office bearers and members will be elected. There is a provision in the legislature that the central president will nominate 33 members in the 167-member central committee.
