Unable to maintain lead, Chelsea held to draw with Everton

KATHMANDU: DEC. 17 – Chelsea have been held to a draw with Everton in the English Premier League. Unable to maintain an early lead, London club Chelsea drew 1-1 with Everton at home.
Chelsea’s draw has given City and Liverpool some relief as fierce competition between the top three teams continues in the title race. Chelsea missed out on a narrow lead in third place.
England midfielder Mason Mount made good use of Reece James’ pass in the 70th minute to give the home side an early lead. But Everton equalized four minutes later. Defender Jarrad Branthwaite, 19, made good use of Anthony Gordon’s free-kick in his first appearance in the league.
After the victory, Liverpool is in second place with 40 points from 17 games. Top-ranked City have 41 points from the same game. Even after the draw, Chelsea remains in third place with 37 points.
