Pradip surpasses Bishwa Prakash, Gagan’s lead remains
KATHMANDU: DEC. 16 – Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma have taken the lead in the counting of votes of the General Secretary under the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress. When 300 votes were counted, Gagan got 200 votes and Pradip Poudel got 110 votes.
Similarly, Bishwa Prakash got 104 votes, Pradip Poudel got 27 votes, Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat got 91 votes, Dr. Minendra Rijal got 55 votes and Dr. Rajaram Karki got 4 votes. As there is a young leader candidate for the post of General Secretary, there is a lot of interest in who will win. The Congress constitution provides for the election of two general secretaries from the general convention. There is competition among 6 candidates for the post of General Secretary.
Mahat and Poudel have been nominated from the panel of President Sher Bahadur Deuba. Thapa and Rijal are from Shekhar Koirala’s panel. Sharma, who is also the Nepali Congress spokesperson, has also risen to the post of General Secretary. Although he rose from Prakashman Singh’s panel to the post of General Secretary, Singh backed Deuba in the second phase of elections.
In the counting of votes held this morning, Purna Bahadur Khadka and Dhanraj Gurung have emerged victorious for the post of vice president.
There were seven candidates for the post of vice-president.
