Khadka and Gurung elected Vice Presidents of NC
KATHMANDU: DEC. 16 – Purna Bahadur Khadka and Dhanraj Gurung have won the post of Vice President under the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress. According to the counting of votes that ended late on Wednesday night, Khadka, the candidate from the party of President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Gurung, the candidate from the party of Shekhar Koirala have won.
Khadka got the highest number of votes while Gurung defeated Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar by a narrow margin. Khadka and Gurung got 2121 and 1908 votes respectively. Another vice-presidential candidate, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, lost by two votes. He received 1906 votes. Similarly, Chandra Bhandari got 1580 votes. Another vice-presidential candidate Sujata Koirala got 644 votes, Mahesh Acharya got 589 votes and Divya Shah got 132 votes.
In Monday’s vote, they had given their candidature for the post of two vice-presidential. Out of a total of 4,743 voters, 4,679 cast their votes. Voting was held for 132 posts including office bearers and members of the Congress Central Working Committee.
The counting of votes for the post of president was held at the National Assembly on Wednesday where Prime Minister and party president Sher Bahadur Deuba has been re-elected, president. The counting of votes for other posts besides the president will be done at the NC Central Office. The committee has stated that the counting of votes for other office bearers and central members will start as soon as the results of the post of deputy president are announced.
