Shekhar added 153 votes in second phase, but could not overcome the defeat

KATHMANDU: DEC. 15 – Despite losing the second phase of voting for the Nepali Congress President, Shekhar Koirala got more votes. In the second phase, he got 153 more votes than in the first.

Deuba was elected in the second phase with 2,733 votes. Koirala received 1,855 votes out of a total of 4,623 votes cast. 35 votes were invalidated.

In the first phase of voting, candidates included Deuba, Koirala, Prakash Man Singh, Bimalendra Nidhi, and Kalyan Gurung.

There were 4,679 votes cast, with Deuba receiving 2,258 votes, Koirala receiving 1,702 votes, Singh receiving 371 votes, Nidhi receiving 250 votes, and Gurung receiving 22 votes. 76 votes were invalidated.

Despite adding 153 votes in the second phase, Shekhar could not overcome the defeat. In this phase of the election, Singh, Nidhi and Gurung supported Deuba and Deuba won easily.
