Boca Juniors beat Barcelona to win the title
KATHMANDU: DEC. 15 – Argentine club Boca Juniors have won the Maradona Cup after beating Barcelona. The juniors beat Tiebreaker in the competition, which was started in the memory of legendary Argentine footballer Diego Maradona.
Boca Juniors beat Spanish club Barcelona 4-2 in a penalty shootout on Tuesday night to win the title. The game was decided by a penalty kick after a 1-1 draw at the King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Boca Juniors’ Marcos Rojo, Carlos Roberto Izquierdoz, Cristian Pavon and Aaron Molinas scored from the penalty spot. Barcelona’s Dani Alves and Ferran Jutgla scored while Matheus Pereira and Guillem Jaime failed to score.
Before that, Barcelona took the lead in the 52nd minute of the competitive game through a goal by Ferran Jutgla. He scored on a pass from Philippe Coutinho. In the 77th minute, Exequiel Zeballos scored a goal to level the game 1-1. He made good use of Frank Fabra’s pass.
Barcelona, which is going through a bad rhythm this season, managed to put pressure on Boca Juniors with ball possession but failed to lift the title.
This is the third defeat in the last seven games played by Barcelona in the training of Xavi. Veteran defender Dani Alves, who joined Barcelona last month, also made his second debut for Barcelona. Prior to that, he was at Barcelona from 2008 to 2016.
