General Secretaries would be Thapa and Sharma
KATHMANDU: DEC. 14 – The 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress is underway. Voting has taken place for the office bearers and central members including the president/general minister. The second phase of voting is underway since no candidate of the presidency received a majority in the first phase. There was curiosity about who would win until the results of the first phase were made public. It was not just an issue of who would win, but also of how many votes each of the six contenders would receive.
Meanwhile, an organization called Facts Nepal issued a post-poll survey. Sher Bahadur Deuba received the most votes in the poll for the post of the presidency, which was done by asking 2148 delegates to participate in the election. The poll showed that Deuba would get 45 percent of the votes, followed by Dr. Shekhar Koirala with 32 percent, Prakash Man Singh with 9 percent and Bimalendra Nidhi with 8 percent.
This survey’s results are nearly identical. Deuba received 48.2 percent of the vote, according to the poll. Similarly, Shekhar got more votes than the projected 32 percent or 37 percent for the post f presidency. Similarly, Singh received almost 8% of the predicted 9 percent of votes, while Nidhi received 5.3 percent fewer than the projected 8 percent.
Even though there is no exact match, the rankings of the top, second, third, and fourth candidates, as well as the percentage of votes cast, are almost the same.
According to their projections, Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma are the most probable candidates to win the position.
Exit polls suggest Thapa and Sharma may get more votes than others Thapa is projected to get 45 percent of the vote and Sharma 29 percent. Similarly, another candidate for the post of General Secretary Pradip Poudel is projected to get 10 percent votes, Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat 8 percent and Dr. Minendra Rijal 7 percent. It is seen that other candidates will get 1 percent votes.
Based on the projection received by the president, it seems that Thapa and Sharma will win the general secretary post. Thapa and Sharma seem to be winning even if they look at the party from a lower percentage than projected to the president. Because Sharma, who is in the second position in the projection, will get 29 percent and Poudel, who is in the third position, will get 10 percent votes. This means a difference of 19 percent between Sharma and Poudel. The highest percentage of dissent is 5 percent. From this point of view, Thapa and Sharma seem to be victorious even if there is a difference of 15 percent in the General Secretary.
