Second phase of voting begins
KATHMANDU: DEC. 14 – The second round of voting for the election of the president has started in the closed session of the fourth day under the ongoing 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress. Voting started at 3:30 pm on Tuesday. The Central Election Committee (CEC) has stated that the polling will be held till 7:30 pm.
Congress delegates are queuing outside the National Assembly for voting. A large crowd of Nepali Congress (NC) cadres has gathered outside the National Assembly. The police have only permitted the delegates to enter the National Assembly after verifying their identification cards.
Voting for the second phase has started after none of the presidential candidates could get a majority in the first round of the election. In the second phase, an election competition is being held between Sher Bahadur Deuba and Dr. Shekhar Koirala. In the first round, Deuba got 2258 votes while Shekhar got only 1702 votes.
Even now, Deuba’s victory is almost certain. Leaders including Bimalendra Nidhi, Prakash Man Singh, Kalyan Gurung and Shashank Koirala have also said that they will support Deuba.
