Voting for second phase of election starts at 3:30 pm
KATHMANDU: DEC. 14 – Voting for the election of Nepali Congress President will be held again after 3:30 pm. Voting is set to resume after no one was able to cut 50 percent in the first round.
According to the Nepali Congress Central Election Committee, the election will be held at the National Assembly House and Bhrikuti Mandap on Monday from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm. In the second phase of the election, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Shekhar Koirala will compete. According to the Election Committee, Deuba got 2258 votes and Koirala got 1702 votes in the first phase of the election.
Along with Deuba/Koirala, Prakash Man Singh, Bimalendra Nidhi and Kalyan Gurung were vying for the president. According to the Congress constitution, in order to be elected president, a majority, i.e. more than 50 percent of the votes must be cast. There is a provision for re-voting between the two contestants who get the most votes if no one has got 50 percent than above votes.
The Congress has this time elected for 134 posts including 1 president, 2 vice presidents, 2 general secretaries and 8 joint general secretaries. The counting of votes for the remaining posts will take place only after the result of the president is announced.
