Deuba also failed to get a majority, second round of voting will take place
KATHMANDU: DEC. 14 – The second round of voting is going to be held for the election of the President of the Nepali Congress. The second round of voting will be held after none of the five candidates got 50% above votes in the first round.
According to the Congress constitution, at least 50 percent of votes must be reached in order to win the presidency in the first phase. However, no candidate has reached 50 percent above votes from the first round of voting.
From the first round of voting, there was an interesting contest between Sher Bahadur Deuba and Dr. Shekhar Koirala. Sher Bahadur got 1645 votes and increased it to 47.87 percent while Shekhar got 1645 votes. The second round of voting will also take place.
Legislatively, in the second round, there are two candidates who get the most votes in the first round and the candidate who gets the most votes is elected as the chairman. Seen in this light, Sher Bahadur and Shekhar will now become candidates again and will be elected as the chairperson who gets more votes.
How much is the Shekhar chances?
It has been analyzed that Shekhar, who went to the second phase from the beginning, will prove to be strong. There are grounds for this. Leaders in Congress, especially those who want a generational transition, are almost certain to support Shekhar in the second phase.
Earlier, another presidential candidate Prakash Man Singh had also said it. He has promised to win on his own and to support candidates other than Deuba if he does not become a candidate in the second round. Accordingly, Prakash Man will help Shekhar.
Prakash Man is one of the leaders who said that Sher Bahadur should be removed from the leadership of the Nepali Congress. Prakash Man has got 350 votes in the first phase. Shekhar Sher Bahadur will get closer if the delegates who voted for Prakash Man give it to Shekhar in the second round. Prakash Man and Shekhar’s first round of voting is 1995. That is 45.58 percent. It is understood that the fund will also help Shekhar. If he also supports Shekhar, then Shekhar will have 2234 votes. That is 51.05 percent.
However, no one can help Sher Bahadur Deuba. If he is on his own side, Bimalendra Nidhi, who challenged him in the first round, will not support him. If given, the majority will also be in favor of Deuba. In the first round, 239 votes were cast in favor of the fund. His vote is 2334 when combined with Deuba. That is 53.33 percent.
From this point of view, the fund seems decisive.
