Congress General Convention: Candidature registration for 134 posts today
KATHMANDU: DEC. 11 – The process of selecting new leadership is starting under the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress. The closed session started after the inauguration ceremony at Bhrikuti Mandap on Friday.
According to Senior Advocate Gopal Krishna Ghimire, coordinator of the Central Election Committee, out of the 167-member Central Working Committee, 13 office bearers and 121 central members will be elected. “From 10 am to 5 pm, nominations for the post of president and central member are being registered in the National Assembly,” he said.
Voting will begin at 8 a.m. Monday (Monday) after the final list is published tomorrow. As per the constitution of the Nepali Congress, there is a 167-member Central Working Committee, in which the 14th General Convention will elect 134 members. Elections will be held for the posts of president one, vice president two, general secretary two and joint general secretary eight.
Similarly, 121 central members will be elected. The constitution of the Nepali Congress provides for the nomination of one elected member of the Central Working Committee as the treasurer on the proposal of the president. The president can nominate 33 central members.
Four thousand 743 delegates have been elected for the new leadership of the Nepali Congress. According to NC Central Office Secretary Prakash Sharma, delegates have been selected from 77 districts, fraternal organizations, well-wishers and Nepali public relations committees abroad.
30,000 fee for president
A separate fee has been fixed for the candidature of Nepali Congress office-bearers. According to Secretary Sharma, the candidate for the post of president will have to pay a registration fee of Rs 30,000.
For the post of vice president and the General Secretary will have to pay Rs 25,000 each for the registration fee, ‘said Election Committee Coordinator Ghimire. Candidates for the post of Joint General Minister will have to pay Rs 20,000 and candidates for the post of Central Member will have to pay Rs 10,000.
