14th General Convention of Congress begins today, 4700 voters will select leadership

KATHMANDU: DEC. 10 – The 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress is starting from today. Although the schedule has been changed many times, the general convention will finally start from today.

The General Convention is being inaugurated at Bhrikuti Mandap at 1 pm with the slogan ‘Enthusiasm, Unity, Transformation: Let’s Make the 14th General Convention a Success’. The 13th general convention was also held at Bhrikuti Mandap in 2072 Falgun ( March 2016).

Congress spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma said that the inauguration ceremony would be held in a smooth and systematic manner as all the preparations for the convention have been completed. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to be completed within two hours.

Spokesperson Sharma informed that leaders of major parties of the country, foreign representatives and top leaders of the Nepali Congress would address the inauguration.

The inauguration will be attended by the heads of all the major political parties of Nepal as well as representatives of the BJP of India and the Congress from abroad. Most of the 4,700 delegates participating in the convention have already arrived in Kathmandu.

4700 voters will choose the leadership

From the General Convention, 4,700 delegates will select a 134-member Central Working Committee with 13 office bearers including a president, two vice presidents, two general secretaries and eight joint general secretaries. The treasurer is to be selected by the central members.

Voting and counting of votes is scheduled for Sunday after the candidature ends on Saturday. After the inauguration, voting will be held at Bhrikuti Mandap, Mahendra Police Club and National Assembly. The convention venue is adorned with party flags and election symbols. There are reception gates at various places around.
