Meeting of Congress establishment & other parties started, attempts to select a common candidate
KATHMANDU: DEC. 8 – The meeting of the founding party of the Nepali Congress has started. The meeting started at leader Prakash Man Singh’s residence in Chaksibari. Earlier, the leaders, who had been sitting once on Wednesday morning, had convened another meeting after 3 PM and decided to elect a common candidate for the post. Leader Badri Pandey said that the current meeting will try to choose a common candidate.
Leader Prakash Man Singh and leader Dr Shekhar Koirala, who are also former general ministers on the other side of the establishment, have not backed down from their stand. General Secretary Shashank Koirala and senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel have said that they will give up their demands. He pointed out the need for generational change in leadership and said that he had left his position.
In particular, the four aspiring leaders have been pressured by more than a dozen young leaders to field a common candidate. Young leaders have warned that if a common candidate is not chosen, they will intervene and decide on the candidate.
Looking at the results of the state and lower levels, the non-establishment party has not been able to choose a common candidate even though it has analyzed that it will lose.
