Amresh Kumar Singh defeated in Congress General Convention
KATHMANDU: DEC. 8 – MP and Nepali Congress leader Amresh Kumar Singh has lost the party’s general convention election. Representing Sarlahi Constituency No. 4, he lost in the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress.
According to public opinion polls this morning, he received only 248 votes. He is considered close to senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel’s group. With the defeat, Singh will no longer be able to participate in the Central General Convention. Singh’s group lost in the House of Representatives regional convention.
Leaders/cadres of Singh’s faction have lost in the regional working committee and general convention delegates. There was an allegation that the establishment party was alone in distributing active membership forms in Sarlahi. When the dispute escalated, there were frequent clashes between the cadres and the police had to fire in the air.
Singh had earlier resigned from the HoR expressing dissatisfaction with the distribution of active membership. After that, the people’s representatives and leaders of his district had demanded action.
