KATHMANDU: DEC. 8 – The major political parties engaged in the General Convention to select the central leadership have been working hard to strengthen the party’s foundation from the ward. The major political parties have intensified the expansion of the organization with the objective of strengthening the organizational structure from the grassroots level.

Political parties including Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center, CPN-UML and CPN-Unified Socialists are engaged in general conventions, national conferences and organization-building campaigns. Spokesperson of the Nepali Congress and Chief of the Department of Information, Communication and Publicity Bishwaprakash Sharma said that the organizational structure should be strong, effective and people-oriented from the grassroots level to strengthen the people’s base.

He said, “While the Nepali Congress is preparing for the 14th General Convention, new leadership has been selected in the wards and municipalities along with the increase in active membership. The presence of committed cadres in the party helps in building a mass base. ”

Congress rich in cadres

14th general convention of the Nepali Congress, which is rich in cadres, is being held on Dec. 10,11 and 12. The General Convention process begins with the distribution of active membership. The Nepali Congress has almost doubled its active membership in all 77 districts of the country this time. Secretary at the NC Central Office, Prakash Sharma, said that 50 percent new active members have been added in some districts. Sharma told Gorkhapatra, “The number of active members of the Nepali Congress has increased to more than 870,000. This number includes new and old active members. ”

Congress has posted the list of active members on the party’s official website. According to Sharma, the list of 840,106 active members has been posted on the website. The list of remaining active members is being updated on the website.

He said, “The list of active members of some districts is still being posted on the website. The list of active members is also being received from the Nepali Public Relations Committee abroad. The number of active members may increase further. ” Statistics show that the attraction of youth in the Nepali Congress has also increased. The active members are 5 percent in the age group of 16 to 25 years and about 30 percent in the age group of 26 to 40 years.

UML’s eight lakhs

CPN (UML) has concluded its 10th general convention. According to the figures updated by the UML during the general convention process, the number of organized members of the party is 855,000. UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai said that the party was not affected much. He also informed that the representation of youth in the party has increased.

He said, “The number of organized members in the CPN-UML is more than 855,000. Among them, the representation of youth under the age of 40 is very high. About 50 percent of the youth are organized members. ”

Seven and a half lakhs of Maoists

CPN (Maoist Center) has also intensified its organizational expansion. The Maoist Center, which is preparing for the national conference, has been forming organizations from the ward level.

Chief Secretary of the UCPN (M) Shri Ram Dhakal said that the number of organized members of the party has reached 750,000. He added that another 50,000 members would be added. According to Dhakal, the party unity from Bikram Samvat 2075 BS to 2078 BS and the statistics of the organized members of some constituencies are yet to be updated.

Chief Secretary Dhakal said, “After the unification with UML, the organization was in disarray. Before that, our party had more than 300,000 members. The party united with 45 groups including various political parties and organizations. By managing all the members through the national conference, the number of organized members has reached 750,000. ”

One Ward One Thousand: Socialist

Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal’s CPN-Unified Socialist Party is conducting a campaign of ‘One Ward One Thousand Party Members and One Hundred Organized Members’. Deputy General Secretary of the Unified Socialists and Chief of the Publicity Department Jagannath Khatiwada said that they are conducting a three-month campaign for the formation of the organization. He said, “The Unified Socialists still have about three lakh organized members. We are reaching out to the wards with the aim of reaching six lakh organized members through a three-month campaign.

RPP to expand the organization

Rastriya Prajatantra Party, which is expanding its RPP, got new leadership only on Sunday. Newly elected chairperson Rajendra Lingden said that a campaign would be launched to strengthen the RPP.

Talking to Gorkhapatra, RPP Chairperson Lingden said, “RPP has 150,000 members in the country. The new leadership is committed to running a campaign to strengthen the organizational structure. ”
