Election of National Assembly Members: Here is the schedule
KATHMANDU: DEC. 7 – The Election Commission has approved the schedule and election program for the election of National Assembly members. Political parties wishing to participate in the election have to register for the election from Dec. 16 to 25 as per the approved schedule.
According to the election program, the voter list will be published in the office of the Returning Officer on Jan 1st and the person who is exempted from being included in the published list will apply for inclusion of his name. There is a program to lodge a complaint against the protest.
Similarly, the commission has stated that there is a program to investigate and take action on the petitions and complaints on Jan 2 and 3 and to publish the final voter list.
To register the nomination letter of the candidate on Jan 4 and to publish the list of candidates whose nomination papers have been registered, to lodge a complaint against the candidate on Jan 5, to decide on the nomination papers and complaints on Jan 6 and 7 and to publish the list of candidates, candidates are scheduled to withdraw their names on Jan 8, publish the final list of candidates on Jan 9, provide election symbols to the candidates and cast their votes at the designated polling stations on Jan 26 from 9 am to 3 pm.
The term of one-third of the members, including National Assembly Vice-Chairperson Shashikala Dahal, is coming to an end on March 5. Among those who have completed their term are presidents of thematic committees. There is a legally binding provision that members must be elected at least 35 days before the end of their term.
