CM Shahi lays foundation for first State Pride Project
KARNALI: DEC. 6 – Construction of the Surkhet Stadium has been initiated as the first State Pride Project.
Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi laid the foundation stone for the stadium today. The Karnali Sports Development Council (KSDC) and the MACGSL Joint Venture Kantipath Kathmandu had signed an agreement in the second week of this month for the construction of the sports structure.
Addressing the foundation-laying program, Chief Minister Shahi instructed the bodies concerned to ensure that the stadium construction project is completed in time as it is a ‘state pride project’.
“We have to organize the 10th National Games. We have to get our sports infrastructures ready before that,” he reminded.
State minister for economic affairs and planning Bindaman Bista said construction of the State-level stadium is a matter of pride for Surkhet.
State minister for land management, agriculture and cooperatives Chandra Bahadur Shahi viewed that the government’s plan of building a State-level stadium will contribute to the multi-dimensional development of the sports sector in the State.
KSDC member-secretary Bishwamitra Sanjyal the stadium would be constructed at an investment of Rs 1.594 billion. It will have a capacity of accommodating 10 thousand audiences.
As per the agreement, the construction company has to complete the construction of the stadium within 30 months.
The stadium would have a football pitch as per the FIFA standard, an eight-lane synthetic athletics track and swimming pool as well as other sports facilities in its premises. It would also have TV live broadcast platform and the Olympic torch stand.
