Shekhar apologized after Gururaj’s defeat
KATHMANDU: DEC. 6 – Leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has apologized after his close candidate Gururaj Ghimire was defeated in the election for the post of Congress president of State 1. Despite being present at the polling place, he did not vote. Sujata Koirala and Mahesh Acharya refused to vote as well. Ghimire was defeated by a vote of two.
Ghimire’s rival Uddhav Thapa got 844 votes while Ghimire got only 842 votes. Ghimire would have won by one vote if Shekhar, Sujata, and Mahesh had voted.
After Ghimire’s defeat, Koirala apologized for his weakness. “The question of whether the central leaders will be able to cast their votes in the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress (NC) was ‘doubtful’ from the very beginning,” Koirala said. Therefore, I decided not to vote. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused me. ‘
Ghimire demanded a recount after his defeat. However, the Nepali Congress’s state election committee has rejected it. The committee has handed over the power to the Central Election Committee.
