Parliamentary hearing of the proposed ambassador for the three countries today
KATHMANDU: DEC. 6 – The recommendation of the ambassador proposed by the government for different countries is being made on Monday (today). Parliamentary hearings for the proposed ambassadors to India, the United Kingdom and the United States are set to begin today.
Earlier, the hearing was scheduled for Nov. 21 but was postponed due to lack of quorum. The 15-member committee now has 11 members. The meeting was adjourned after only five people attended.
The next meeting of the committee was scheduled for Dec. 3. However, it was postponed for today as the quorum was not reached in the meeting held on Dec. 3. The cabinet had recommended Shankar Sharma as ambassador to India, Gyan Chandra Acharya as ambassador to the United Kingdom and Shridhar Khatri as ambassador to the United States.
Although the committee called a meeting to hear the complaint by calling for 10 days, the hearing could not be held without reaching the quorum. There is a constitutional provision that an ambassador will be appointed by the president after approval by a parliamentary hearing.
