Shahi elected as Karnali president from Deuba’s faction

SURKHET: DEC. 5 – Nepali Congress has elected Lalit Jung Shahi as the president of Karnali State. Shahi belongs to the establishment (President Sher Bahadur Deuba) faction.

According to the Election Committee, Lalit Jung got 422 votes out of the total 754 votes cast. His rival Bhupendra Jung Shahi got 317 votes while Motiraj Bam got 7 votes.

Out of the total number of votes cast, 8 votes have been invalidated. Bhupendra Jung is on the side of the Establishment Other (senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel) faction while Motiraj is on the side of party vice-president Bimalendra Nidhi.

The election committee has stated that the votes of other office bearers and members besides the president are being counted.
