KATHMANDU: DEC. 4 – New Zealand bowler Ajaz Patel has given a sensational performance in the second Test between India and New Zealand. He took all 10 wickets for India in the first innings of the second Test. India have scored 325 runs in the first innings. Mayank Agarwal scored 150 runs for India.
Patel, who was born in Mumbai, has become a sensation
Born on October 21, 1988, in Mumbai, India, Ajaz has created a sensation against India. Coincidentally, the game is being played at the Wankhede Stadium in his hometown of Mumbai. Patel’s family moved to New Zealand when he was eight years old.
Taking 10 wickets for 119 runs, Ajaz set many records to his name. He became the first foreign bowler to achieve this feat in India. This is the highest performance of any spinner in India. Earlier, the record for most wickets against India was held by Jack Noriega.
He took 9 wickets for 95 runs in 1971. Also, it is the best performance by any New Zealand bowler in a single inning of a Test. The last time Richard Hadley took nine wickets was for 52 runs against Australia in 1985.
Ajaz became the highest wicket-taker in the first innings of any Test in India. Earlier, in 2012, Jeetan Patel had taken 4 wickets in the first innings of the Hyderabad Test.
Daniel Vettori also took 4 wickets in the first innings of the Ahmedabad Test in 1999 and 2010. Ajaz even took 5 or more wickets in the same innings for the third time.
New Zealand’s poor performance
Despite Ajaz’s excellent performance, New Zealand’s batting has been weak. New Zealand were all out for 62 runs. His 17 runs scored by Kyle Jamieson was the highest.
Apart from him, Tom Latham scored 10 runs and no one could add a run in double digits. India’s Ravichandran Ashwin took 4 wickets, Mohammed Siraj 3 wickets, Axar Patel 2 wickets and Jayant Yadav 1 wicket.
