Manang’s thrilling match with Sankata

KATHMANDU: DEC. 4 – In the Martyrs’ Memorial A Division Football League, Manang Marsyangdi Club has escaped by reaching near loss. In the first game on Saturday, Sankata could not avoid the last few seconds and the score was tied at 2-2.

Manang, which was close to defeat, was leveled by Franklin Quetta with a goal in the last few seconds of extra time. Manang had regained control of the game after being behind twice.

Unbeaten Manang has 7 points from 3 games after the draw. Sankata and Satdobato also have 7 points. Sankata took the lead in the 32nd minute through Laxman Ruchal’s free-kick. But the lead did not last long.

Less than three minutes later, Manang’s Pujan Uparkoti’s free-kick was flipped by Afeez Olawale, which was converted into a goal by Dayanand Singh. Even then, both teams created limited scoring opportunities but failed to score.

Substitute Uttam Rai scored in the 70th minute to give the team the lead. After that, even though they took the lead till the last minute, they could not handle the crisis for a few seconds and were forced to settle for a draw with Manang.

Before that, in the 50th minute, Fofana’s powerful shot was saved by goalkeeper Bishal Sunar. In the 61st minute, Manang escaped from a possible lead when Olawale Afeez’s shot came out.
