DHANGADHI: DEC. 3 – Kailali police have arrested a woman on charge of poisoning her step son to death. Kailali police have arrested Magi Rokaya, 23, of Bajura Khaptad, Chhededaha Rural Municipality-2, Dhangadhi, who was arrested on charge of murdering her step son at a press conference on Friday.

According to the Chief Superintendent of Police (SP) at the District Police Office, Kailali, the accused has confessed to killing the 10-year-old Nishan Thapa Magar, step son, who was living with her. According to him, the woman had fled with her 14-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son on Nov. 14 after mixing poison in her son’s milk.

The incident took place on Nov. 14 after the woman fled to Haryana, India with her children after giving poison to the child. Police have stated that the Kailali District Court has extended the time limit in the case against Magi Rokaya.

What happened?

Bahadur Rokaya, a resident of Chhededaha Rural Municipality-2 of Khaptad in Bajura, was in India for employment. While having a son and a daughter at home, he ran away and married a woman named Nirmala Thapa Magar in India three years ago. Along with Nirmala, Nishan also came along.

Nishan, who came with Nirmala, was admitted to Himalaya Academy in Dhangadhi. About three years ago, Magi Rokaya also came to Dhangadhi to teach her 14-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son.

After his wife and children started living in Dhangadhi, Bahadur started keeping Nishan (who was living in hostel) with them before two years ago. The argument between Magi and Mr. Bahadur escalated when they came to live with Rachhori in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan Ward No. 2.

Angered by her husband, when the deceased Nishan returned from school, she mixed rat poison in the milk and fed it. After feeding the poison, she told Nishan, “Stay in the room, we will come in the evening.” She left for India with her children.

After his wife and children had not been in touch for a few days, Bahadur Rokaya from India sent his relatives in Dhangadhi to his house on Nov. 17 to inquire about their whereabouts. When the relatives reached the dormitory, they found that the front door of the room was locked and the back door was open. Inside the room, the fan was turned on and only the child’s feet were seen from the front window.

He reported the incident to the police. Step son Nishan was found dead at the scene. He was studying in class 3 at Himalaya Academy in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan Ward No. 2.

Police have started searching for the fugitive Magi along with her children. After receiving information that Magi was in Haryana, India, during the search operation, a police team under the command of Inspector of Police was deployed there on Nov. 29. With the help and coordination of the Indian police, the Nepal Police arrested Magi from Prem Chowk, Rohtak, Haryana, India on Dec. 1 and brought her back to Nepal.
