Three candidates vying for first State 1 Presidency of Nepali Congress
ITAHARI: DEC. 2 – Three candidates are vying for the First Presidency of Nepali Congress State 1 Committee.
Rajib Koirala, the Parliamentary Party Leader of State 1 Assembly, Gururaj Ghimire, former central President of Nepal Students Union and incumbent Central Committee Member of Nepali Congress and Uddab Thapa, Immediate Past President of Nepali Congress Jhapa, are vying for the post.
Koirala and Ghimire represent rival factions of the Nepali Congress. Likewise, Thapa is the final candidate from President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s faction. Krishna Sitaula has also thrown his weight behind Thapa’s candidacy.
The first State Congress of Nepali Congress will be inaugurated on Thursday. The list of candidates and voters will be made public on Friday. An election is scheduled on Saturday.
Rajib Koirala, one of the two aspirants from a rival faction, said their team will finalize a single candidate at the earliest. ”We are going to hold a meeting to give the final touch,” said Koirala, ”We will field a single candidate either myself or Gururaj Ghimire.”
