Deputy Secretary and Branch Officer are more involved in corruption

KATHMANDU: DEC. 2 – Deputy Secretary and Branch Officer level employees are found to be most involved in corruption in government bodies. A statistical analysis of the annual report of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority for the fiscal year 2077/78 found that most of the corruption was committed by the branch officer and deputy secretary level staff.

In its report, the authority has pointed out the nature and trend of corruption and pointed out that bribery is still rampant in various government offices. Authorities say corruption is taking place in various forms, colors and styles in various areas of government revenue expenditure, public property, public procurement, construction and public service delivery.

According to the report of the authority, out of 443 defendants filed on various corruption charges in the fiscal year 2077/78, only 165 are deputy secretaries and branch officers. There are 108 Deputy Secretaries and 56 Branch Officers. This analysis shows that undersecretaries working in various government bodies are at the forefront of corruption.
