Congress convening state convention for the first time
KATHMANDU: DEC. 2 – The Nepali Congress is holding a state convention for the first time after the country went to the federal structure. The ruling party Congress is going to start state-level conventions in all the seven states from today under its 14th general convention.
Party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is also the prime minister of the seven-state convention, is scheduled to inaugurate the convention through virtual media. According to Congress spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma, the state convention is scheduled to be inaugurated at 2 pm.
According to him, the conventions of State-1 will be held in Biratnagar, Janakpur of State-2, Hetauda of Bagmati, Pokhara of Gandaki, Butwal of Lumbini, Surkhet of Karnali and Dhangadhi. The convention will, for the first time, select a Congress state working committee.
According to Congress Central Election Committee Coordinator Gopal Krishna Ghimire, the General Convention delegates elected from 165 constituencies and the State Convention delegates elected from 330 constituencies will cast their votes for the leadership of their respective provinces. There is a schedule to publish the voter list today. Candidates will be registered tomorrow and voting will be held on Dec. 4.
