Foreign tourists barred from entering Sikkim from today
KATHMANDU: DEC. 1 – The Sikkim government has banned foreign tourists from entering the country from today, citing an increased risk of a new variant of the coronavirus, Omicron. Foreign tourists will be barred from entering the country from 6 am today (Wednesday) till December 15.
The Sikkim government has said that foreign tourists have been banned from entering the state due to the transmission of Omicron. On Tuesday, the state Home Department said in a statement that it would not issue permission to foreign tourists visiting Sikkim.
The department has written to the tourism department ordering not to allow any foreign tourists to visit Sikkim and not to issue any permit.
The Sikkim government has maintained other rules for entry into the state. Sikkim is the first state in India to bar foreign tourists from entering the country.
