BIRATNAGAR: NOV. 29 – Kedar Bhandari has been elected as the president of Nepali Congress Sunsari. Bhandari, who was elected from the Poudel-Koirala faction, defeated Sanjay Kumar Shrestha by a margin of 113 votes. Bhandari has been elected from the final results of the last count held this morning.
Out of the 2,626 votes cast, Bhandari got 1,422 votes while Shrestha got 1,309 votes, according to the Election Committee. He was the two-term secretary of the Nepali Congress in Sunsari. Nagesh Chandra Rai and Pankaj Kumar Mahato from the establishment have won the post.
Birendra Kumar Shah and Madhav Kumar Ghising of Establishment were elected as secretaries from the establishment panel. Activists have termed the victory of the chairperson of establishment Others in the district, which is said to be under the influence of Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, as Karki’s defeat.
Karki, who is a confidant of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, has been accused of failing to save seeds in his own district. Karki’s rush did not seem to have any effect on the politics of State-1. Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, who is considered strong in Sunsari, also looks weak.
Gachchhadar, who is considered close to Sher Bahadur Deuba, has lost his own constituency. He has been accused of prolonging the election process because of him.
Sunsari constituency, which has four constituencies, has been won by two constituencies and two constituencies have been won by others. Surendra Tamang of establishment Group won in Constituency No. 1, Lalmani Subedi of establishment Group in Constituency No. 2 and Mehdi Hussain of Constituency No. 3 in Constituency No. 3 wins regional president.
Similarly, in Constituency No. 4, the establishment group has won the regional president. Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, who could not save seeds in the district, won his constituency No. 4 by defeating Ayyub Ansari. Gachchhadar, on the other hand, is not only unable to retain a leader in his constituency but is also perceived by the cadres as a weak leader within Congress.
