Thirteenth meeting of the Nepal-EU Joint Commission begins

KATHMANDU: NOV. 24 – The 13th meeting of the Nepal-EU Joint Commission has started here focusing on the development assistance provided by the European Union to Nepal in the next six years in a multi-year financial framework.

The meeting will discuss various issues of mutual interest including cooperation between Nepal and the European Union, trade, civil aviation security, review of the progress of previous meetings, current political situation, partnership in socio-economic development, climate change and other issues of mutual interest.

The meeting was co-chaired by Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Poudyal, Leader of the Nepali Delegation, and Paula Pampaloni, Deputy Managing Director of the European External Affairs Service for Asia and the Pacific.

The Nepali delegation includes senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Agriculture and Livestock Development, National Planning Commission, Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Forest and Environment, Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

The union delegation includes team leader Pampaloni, two high-ranking officials from Brussels, the union’s ambassador to the country, Nona Deprez, and her aides.

Due to COVID-19, the 12th meeting of the commission was held through a virtual medium last year. Initially scheduled to be held alternately in Kathmandu and Brussels every two years, the meeting has been held annually for the past five years.
