Not to give membership to teachers and staff : Election Commission
KATHMANDU: NOV. 24 – The Election Commission has decided not to allow any government employee to sit in the committee of a political party. A meeting of the commission held on Tuesday decided that the staff, teachers and professors under the federal government, state government or local government should not sit in the committee of any party.
The Commission has also instructed the political parties not to give membership to the employees, teachers or professors of the Government of Nepal, the State Government, the self-governing body owned or controlled by the municipality. The parties have been instructed to pay attention to the publication and broadcast of the news regarding the election of representatives by the employees, teachers and professors participating in the general convention of various political parties registered with the commission.
The Commission has stated that there is a clear provision in sub-section 2 of section 14 of the Political Parties Act 2073 BS that a person holding a public office by a political party cannot be made a member of the party. It is also stated that the details of such office-bearers will not be updated by the commission if the membership of the party is distributed and the office bearers are selected contrary to the directives of the commission.
