Bar in the third phase of the agitation
KATHMANDU: NOV. 21 – Lawyers seeking the resignation of CJ Rana are set to strengthen the movement. The movement started under the leadership of the Nepal Bar Association will be strengthened from today.
Under the third phase of the seven-day agitation, there is a program of Bar in any court across the country today not to debate on issues other than habeas corpus. Bar has been holding sit-ins at the Supreme Court demanding the resignation of CJ Rana since Oct. 31. After not resigning, the Bar has made public the program of additional struggle on a weekly basis.
Bar rejected CJ Rana’s offer of talks and decided to launch further agitation. He has decided not to hold any talks until he resigns. A statement issued by Bar said that the sit-in would be continued at the main gate of the court from 10 am to 12 noon on Monday and all the parties represented in the parliament would go to the parliamentary offices and submit their letters of attention.
In a statement issued by the Secretary-General of the Bar, Lilamani Poudel, a protest meeting will be organized on Nov. 24 at the places where 18 high courts and their benches are located with the participation of legal practitioners within the jurisdiction. It is mentioned that the protest program centered on the Supreme Court will be continued with the wide participation of the legal practitioners of all the Bar units in the Kathmandu Valley ON Nov. 25 and 26.
Bar has been agitating for the reform and purification of the entire judiciary, demanding the resignation of CJ Rana, wearing black stripe, holding sit-ins, demonstrations and other activities since Oct. 31.
