DARCHULA: NOV. 19 – A census team has been deployed for Chhangru and Tinkar in Ward No. 1 of Byans Rural Municipality in Darchula district on Friday morning to conduct the census after India did not give permission. After India’s repeated requests to go to Chhangru and Tinkar via the Indian route, a team of three enumerators finally set out on foot.

It takes three days to reach Chhangru and Tinkar, said Padma Raj Pandey, head of the census office in Darchula. According to him, a team led by Assistant Census Officer Khagendra Karki has reached Dumling, Ward No. 2 of Byans Rural Municipality on Friday morning. “He said, “It takes three days to walk to Tinkar and Chhangru when there is no road from Nepal.”

Though India allowed the use of Indian roads for other purposes, they did not allow them to go for the census, said Chief Pandey. He said there was no guarantee that the team assigned to Chhangru and Tinkar would reach there. He said that there was news that the road was worse than Dumling. “The team has reached Dumling in Byans Ward No. 2 today,” he said. If you can’t go, you have no choice but to return. ‘

According to Chief Pandey, it takes one and a half days to reach Chhangru from Dumling. He said that there was no village/shop in the meantime. He said that if the enumerators could not reach Tinkar and Chhangru without finding a way, the census would be conducted from the phone number brought by the supervisor. According to him, a total of 113 families live in Tinkar and Chhangru.

Walking only option after chopper didn’t appear

If India does not grant permission, the census can be conducted by helicopter in Tinkar and Chhangru, according to Pandey, the head of the census office in Darchula.

The census office, which has been waiting for India’s permission, is in the mood to deploy enumerators on foot even though the helicopter will not arrive at the end. “The government had promised to provide helicopters for Tinkar and Chhangru,” said Pandey, head of the census office in Darchula.

He said that even the enumerators refused to go there on foot. The Central Statistics Office has made a schedule to collect the data for the census from Nov. 11 to 25.
